Estate sale companies for executors

After the inventory, when there's significant personal property — furniture, collectibles, vehicles, tools, art — to sell or distribute. Especially valuable when you live out of state or are short on time.

What to look for

  • Insured and bonded.
  • Transparent commission structure — typically 30–50% with a written contract.
  • Provides a written inventory before the sale and a settlement statement after.
  • Has experience with probate (the estate's authority to sell flows from Letters Testamentary).

Questions to ask

  • What's your commission, and what does it include — staging, cleanout, advertising?
  • How do you handle items that don't sell?
  • Do you provide a written inventory and settlement statement?
  • Can you start before probate is fully concluded, or do you need Letters Testamentary?
